Returned from First Ever Solo Holiday!

Hola! I’ve recently returned to the office after embarking on my first-ever solo holiday to La Pineda, Spain. Now, I know solo travel might sound daunting at first. I certainly had my pre-trip nerves but venturing out on your own unlocks a unique set of benefits, especially when it comes to your mental health.

Here's why it was the perfect reset button for my brain:

Embrace the Silence:

Freedom from the overstimulation from the daily hustle and bustle, or the need to cater to others. Solo travel allowed me to create my own rhythm; no crowded streets, no decision fatigue – just the sound of the waves, the warmth of the sun, and the chance to choose my own pace = 😍 pure sensory bliss!

Freedom and Flexibility:

As someone with ADHD, I crave a bit of structure, but with the flexibility to adjust on the fly. Solo travel allowed me to build a loose daily itinerary, I could explore the town of Salou in the morning and then spend the afternoon sprawled out on the beach with a good puzzle book. With no rigid plans or guilt, indulging in spontaneous detours was so therapeutic – allowing me to truly explore what sparked joy in the moment.

Embracing Solitude, Not Loneliness:

Being an only child means I’m already comfortable with my own company, but solo travel isn't about isolation; it's about embracing the time in your own company. I’ve come back feeling more centred and at peace than ever.

Of course, solo travel isn't for everyone. But the break from the constant stimulation and daily life routine can be a real game-changer. So, if you're considering a solo trip and have been hesitant, I’d highly recommend giving it a go - you might be surprised at what you find!

Tips for fellow first-time solo travellers:

💡 It’s okay to start small: consider a long weekend getaway or day trip first, you don’t need to dive straight into a month-long backpacking trip!

💡 Don't be afraid to ask for help, the locals and other tourists are often happy to point you in the right direction.

💡Embrace the unexpected: Some of the best travel memories are made from spontaneous detours.

💡 Headphones, a portable charger and a good book are a MUST!

Here’s to more solo travel in the not-so-distant future! 🎉
